Richfield police release bodycam of fatal shooting after suspected car prowler fires at officers during foot pursuit

On April 29, 2026, Richfield Police in Minnesota responded to a report of a suspected car prowler.

During a foot pursuit, 27-year-old Desaver Brian Hollis allegedly brandished a handgun and fired while on his back, striking Sgt. Mario Leon in the hand.

Sgt. Leon tackled the suspect, and Sgt. Kristian Schultz deployed a Taser before switching to his firearm and returning fire.

Hollis was fatally shot. Sgt. Leon was wounded but is expected to recover.

The Richfield Police Department released raw and enhanced bodycam footage from both officers showing the intense struggle and exchange of gunfire.
