Former Florida Corrections Officer Being Investigated for At-Home Discipline of Stepdaughter

Florida correctional officer Mario Grier was captured on home surveillance video in Sanford violently grabbing and slamming his 9‑year‑old stepdaughter onto a car hood in front of other children.
In the footage, the child’s aunt, Leondra Chapman, sees what happened and immediately confronted him upon her arrival.
Sanford Police say they took a report, interviewed the family, and turned the case over to the State Attorney’s Office, which is now reviewing the video and other evidence to determine possible charges.
This man should be arrested immediately, fired from any correctional or law‑enforcement position, and kept away from this 9‑year‑old girl and her siblings.

UPD:

Florida State Attorneys are preparing to investigate a case after video surfaced of Mario Grier disciplining his nine year old stepdaughter.

Sanford Police released a statement, “Had the family been on scene when officers arrived, an immediate arrest could have been made.”

Grier is no longer employed with FDC as of February 17th and is under a criminal investigation.

Me and the wife decided 14 years ago, just before our first born that there will be no hitting of our kids. We agreed, it's basically bullying, forcing someone to succumb to your power. Our big thing is consequences. Teaching them that everything they say, everything they do, has a consequence. We now have two respectful, truthful, polite boys who get great grades. Hitting is losing control.

@Freakazoidalmaniac hitting is never necessary. You can punish a child by taking away privileges. Everything is a privilege. You could leave a kid in a room with nothing but a bed. See how quick they want to listen or "be good"

I don't excuse it, but I understand it. There are sometimes situations in which anger wins. If anger is balanced by love and tenderness, there is nothing wrong.
Healthy raising of children is based solely on the balance between bad and good. If this balance is not ensured, this is where problems begin. Extremes produce extremists!

Kids need tough love sometimes. But the key word there is love. You can’t let the anger win. Child may have done something wrong that needed correcting but doing it this way just confuses and terrorizes her.

If I got my ass snatched as a kid I was clearly explained why before and after and given love and understanding.
