The shocking moment a man launched a racist attack on helpless senior citizens has been caught on camera.
Derek Carl Kirven, 62, who is black, tried to access a members-only recreational area at the Escalante Multi-Generational Center in Arizona on Wednesday.
Kirven went to the lobby where he was told meals were only available to members - a staff member tried to sign him up but he left instead, AZ Family reported.
He returned two hours later and entered the restricted area again where about 20 people were eating.
After again being told to leave, Kirven attacked elderly patrons around him, breaking one's nose and another's wrist, among other injuries.
He later told police he targeted white people and Mexicans and claimed he was not allowed in the center because he was black, reportedly according to court documents.
Security was able to detain him until police arrived.
During his rampage, he managed to punch several diners, including knocking one to the ground and causing a head injury.
Surveillance footage showed Kirven, who was wearing red pants, punched a small group before running to a larger table, where an employee was seen chasing after him.
He appeared to yell at her before punching her in the face and moving around the end of the table to attack more people, knowing a woman off her walker onto the floor, where she would remain throughout his rampage.
Another person was seen picking up a chair to avoid an attack and later rushing him with the furniture, throwing it at him. That angered Kervin, who picked up the object again and hurled it at her, surveillance showed.
An employee suffered injuries, the outlet reported, as well as at least six others.
Kirven, who has a criminal history, admitted to hitting around 12 people and said he knew most of them were defenseless, he told police.
While speaking to police, he used racial slurs toward his victims and to a Hispanic detective working the case.
Kirven also referred to a detective as 'white trash' and a 'confederate.'
He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, trespassing, and criminal damage.
Public records showed Kirven has had prior charges in New Mexico and has convictions on kidnapping and assaulting police officers.
