SAPD releases bodycam footage of officers fatally shooting man on West Side

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department released body-worn camera footage of officers who shot and killed a man on the West Side last month.

The following five San Antonio police officers were involved in the shooting that killed Raul Garza, 69, on Aug. 1.

The shooting happened just after 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 1 in the 600 block of Aurora Avenue after officers responded to a disturbance involving a gun.
In the video, a caller tells SAPD’s dispatch that her neighbor was in the front yard waving a weapon.

Garza placed both arms behind his back, then extended one arm outward while keeping the other behind his back, the video shows. At that point, four officers fired their weapons several times, striking Garza, police said.

Garza was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

@Zeitgeistist That's a Smith and Wesson model 49 with the classic hammer shroud. [older model]. Sorry guys, she only fires .38 specials. You shouldn't even use + P's. Great gun though!
