A Trooper’s PIT Move Put An Innocent Elderly Pair In The Hospital

An Arkansas trooper was usspnhurt after using a PIT maneuver earlier this month to stop a suspect trying to free a traffic stop, leading to a crash that seriously injured an elderly couple.
The incident happened at about 7 p.m. Aug. 5 when an Arkansas State Police tried to pull over a driver for a traffic violation along Interstate 55 in Truman, the department stated in a news release. The driver, later identified as Laloyd L. Hamilton III, refused to stop and sped away at roughly 130 mph.
During the pursuit, the trooper performed a PIT maneuver to stop Hamilton's car, which overturned and flipped into another vehicle. The collision seriously injured a 73-year-old man and a 68-year-old man in the other vehicle, and they were rushed to the hopsital.
Hamilton also was taken to the hospital because of injuries suffered in the crash. The trooper was injured in the incident.
A search of Hamilton's car uncovered a variety of drugs, including marijuana and an unknown liquid substance. The suspect was arrested, and he faces several charges, including felony fleeing, second-degree battery, possession with purpose to deliver a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated and other counts.
The incident remains under investigation.
