A video circulating on social media appears to show an off-duty Chicago police officer confronting a group of teenagers before striking a teenage girl who was recording the encounter.

According to community-sourced accounts and statements made by teenagers in video from the incident, the confrontation reportedly began after two younger teens were accused of chasing and harassing two girls. Older teenage boys reportedly stepped in after learning about the alleged harassment and confronted the younger group.

In video providing additional context, teenagers can be heard discussing what they say happened beforehand. Their account indicates the older teens confronted the younger group over the alleged harassment of the girls. The younger teens’ father, described by community members as an off-duty Chicago police officer, became involved after being told that members of the older group had knives, an allegation the older teenagers denied.
