In ten year period from 1970 to 1980, inflation went up over 140%. Let that sink in compare to recent inflation crisis US faced from 2021 to 2023 that people are complaining about (2021 to 2026 is around 19%). Prices don't really come down from inflation, they tend to still rise or stay the same. Wages must outpace the inflation to regain that quality of life. So 1950s–60s single income households were no longer possible in the late 1970s for many. So take it with a grain of salt from her comment by a random person on a podcast. LOL.
