The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office released video of a deadly deputy-involved shooting that occurred in Imperial Beach on Dec. 21.

The body cam footage shows the moment a San Diego County Sheriff deputy shot and killed a man, later identified as 51-year-old Gary Gates, who had reportedly approached deputies while wielding a knife.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the Imperial Beach pier. A festival was happening in the area at the time, multiple bystanders witnessed the incident.

The video released by the Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday shows Gates speaking to Deputy Maxwell Hammond. Deputy Hammond then instructs Gates to back up, which he complies to but pulls out a knife.

Gates then tells the deputy to get his gun out and “don’t miss.”

Deputy Hammond fires his gun, hitting Gates. Hammond administers aid to Gates in the body cam footage. He later died from his injuries at a hospital.

Some cops are really idiots. Too often they use the lethal method to incapacitate someone. Why do they do this? Because they do not have the physical and mental capacity to use other non-lethal means to neutralize a suspect!
