LAPD officers fatally shoot man in Westmont neighborhood of Los Angeles County holding Gun to his Head

A man whom the Los Angeles Police Department believes was responsible for another shooting was fatally shot by officers in the Westmont neighborhood on Friday morning.

The LAPD said they responded to a radio call of a shooting in the 1100 block of Vermont Avenue around 1 a.m. Comments from the radio call said a man had shot another man and the suspect had fled west on Imperial Avenue.

Police requested additional units in the area. Responding officers found the suspect allegedly armed with a handgun.

The LAPD said officers gave the suspect multiple commands, but he refused to comply, and the suspect was struck by police gunfire.

Paramedics from the LA County Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the suspect dead. He was later identified by LAPD officers as 45-year-old Eliar Real Hernandez.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department opened fire on a suspect while responding to a robbery call late Saturday night. According to the LAPD Public Information Officer, units were called out to a convenience store at the corner of Redondo Beach Boulevard and Figueroa Street, located on the border of the West Rancho Dominguez and Harbor Gateway neighborhoods, for a reported robbery at 11:10 p.m. The store in question, a 7-Eleven, has its address listed as Gardena. “Upon arrival, officers saw the suspect behind the counter,” the PIO stated on social media early Sunday morning. “Officers attempted to communicate with the suspect, [who] retrieved what appeared to be a firearm and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck by gunfire and pronounced deceased at the scene.”

On January 27, 2026, Northeast Division officers spotted Christina Stewart topless on the roof of a recreational vehicle near Avenue 28 south of Pepper Avenue. She came down, was told to put on a shirt, and was questioned about RV ownership. Witnesses said the homeless woman appeared to be trying to break in. As Stewart walked away, officers attempted to detain her. When the officer approached, Stewart hit the officer in the mouth and was taken to the ground, where she broke her arm. Stewart was taken into custody and hospitalized with a fractured left arm. The officer had a minor lip injury and was treated on scene. She was booked for resisting an executive officer.

Man Stabs Own Father To Death Before LAPD Officers Shoot Him

Los Angeles police on Wednesday shot and killed a man who was violently assaulting his father with scissors at a home in Lake Balboa, authorities said. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Officers initially responded to the home in the 17200 block of Valerio Street, just east of Louise Avenue, around 8:10 a.m. after receiving a report of a man suffering from a mental health issue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The suspect "was an adult son who had been violent towards family members in the past," the LAPD said in a statement on social media. Upon arrival at the home, officers "heard a fight coming from inside the residence," the statement said. Police forced their way into the home and "saw the suspect assaulting the victim which resulted in an OIS," police said, using an acronym for an officer-involved shooting. The suspect was struck by gunfire and detained by officers, who rendered medical aid to him and the victim, who suffered apparent stab wounds, according to authorities. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced both the victim and the suspect dead at the scene. The names of the father and son were not immediately released. Authorities said this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. Investigators recovered a pair of scissors that was used by the suspect during the assault, the LAPD said. No officers or other civilians were injured. Video from AIR7 showed at least half a dozen patrol vehicles and an LAPD mobile command center at the scene, on a residential street in the San Fernando Valley. Connor Burks said he just moved in across the street from the house where the shooting happened. "I definitely would want to be there for, whoever is still living over there and like maybe be there for them and stuff," Burks said.

-- A suspect accused of stabbing a man was shot by a Los Angeles police detective in the Westlake District on Tuesday, according to the police department. Police said it started when a plainclothes detective for LAPD saw a man pull out a knife and start stabbing another man around 11 a.m. in the area of Alvarado Street and Olympic Boulevard, about three blocks south of MacArthur Park. LAPD says the detective intervened and ordered the suspect to drop the knife, but was forced to open fire. "The suspect, described as a male, was struck by gunfire, and when additional units arrived, the suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital to receive medical treatment. He is in stable condition," said Officer J. Chaves with LAPD. "The victim was transported to a hospital and is in critical condition and is being treated for an apparent stab wound."

The incident happened Nov. 17 after officers responded to reports of a man with a gun near Topanga Canyon and Roscoe boulevards. They chased him to Northgate Avenue. That's where the footage shows him shoot at officers, prompting them to return fire. The man, identified as 27-year-old Marcus Hayes, was wrestled to the ground and taken into custody. Nobody was hurt in the shooting.
