Exactly like a homeless person who smashes a shop window and waits for the pigs to come. There are four reasons for wanting to go to prison voluntarily: wanting free shelter, acting as a drug mule, escaping a gang that has put a price on your head, and avoiding paying for Christmas presents. In his case, I'm betting on the third option.
