A 32-year-old jiu-jitsu fighter, identified as Lucas Portela Fontana Gomes, has been arrested in Rio de Janeiro after allegedly attacking two female neighbours, including a 65-year-old woman.

The attacks occurred in the early hours of November 5 at a residential building in the Tijuca/Maracanã area. According to investigators, the suspect allegedly forced his way into neighbouring apartments, threatened residents and assaulted an elderly woman.

When another neighbour went to help, he allegedly attacked her inside an elevator. Security footage captured him punching, kicking and choking the woman for nearly three minutes, leaving her seriously injured.

Police were called to the scene. The suspect allegedly resisted arrest and attempted to attack an officer before being shot in the legs and restrained.

Both victims were taken to hospital. The suspect remains in custody and faces investigation for attempted femicide, threats, home invasion, bodily injury and resisting arrest.
