That is a political decision. Is environmental protection the goal, or should everyone be allowed to do whatever they want, no matter what happens to the environment? Both paths are possible, and each comes with its own consequences.

If environmental protection is the goal, there also needs to be a clear plan on how to punish those who break these laws.

So much for 'just repairing an engine.' And they didn’t get 10 years in prison either, it was 5 years probation and a fine.

@Populus Hate speech and incitement across many networks have dropped significantly over the last few days, after the Ukrainians torched Russian data centers, which restricted Russian bot activity. It's clear that there are a bunch of actors out there who want to hysterize ordinary people, keeping them trapped in a constant loop of agitation and rage.
