Man Severely Burned in Random Liquid Attack Outside NYC Restaurant

Surveillance video shows a stunning attack in East Harlem, where an unsuspecting man was attacked with a steaming cup of liquid that left burns across his face.

The random attack happened Monday night outside of a Cravin Crispy restaurant on 116th Street. Video shows the victim standing with his back turned to the suspect, who approaches with the unknown substance and hurls it onto the man's face. He suffered burns to his face and neck.

Investigators said the two men do not know each other and it's not clear why the victim was targeted. They also don't know what substance was poured on the 40-year-old victim.

Police have not been able to identify the victim, who restaurant staff said was waiting on an order when the attacker came up from behind.

@Lostcoss.82 Good habit. For me it really depends on the location and time. In my town, you could leave something expensive on your porch and no one will touch it. If they do, it's to bring it inside and leave a note to let you know. I'm surrounded by good people, and so in town I don't have to watch my six ever. But when I head to the city, you can be damn sure that my head is on a swivel and my gun on my hip. I also keep pepper spray in my pocket, as I'd rather blind someone briefly than take their life.
