Terrible Florida mom leaves her 6-month-old baby in a running car for hours while she cleans a house

EDGEWATER, Fla. — A Florida mother accused of leaving her 6-month-old baby inside a running vehicle for hours while she cleaned a home is behind bars — and it isn't the first time she's been accused of similar conduct.

According to the Edgewater Police Department, a concerned citizen noticed an unoccupied vehicle running in a driveway for an extended period. After approaching the vehicle, the person discovered a 6-month-old baby alone inside and called 911.

Edgewater police responded and determined that Kristina Vitucci had allegedly left the baby inside the vehicle for several hours. Vitucci told officers she checked on the child every 45 minutes.

Body camera video shows officers approaching the home after confirming a baby was inside the vehicle. An officer then walked to the home and knocked on the door. A woman answered and told officers the running vehicle belonged to her house cleaner.
Police said that despite the vehicle running, the air conditioning was not keeping the interior at a comfortable temperature. The baby did not appear to be physically injured but appeared uncomfortable, according to police.

Body camera video later shows officers placing Vitucci in handcuffs.

Investigators said this was not the first time Vitucci had been accused of leaving a child alone inside a vehicle. In February 2025, authorities said she left a child inside a vehicle while she was inside a local bar consuming alcohol.

Police said the latest arrest resulted in an alleged violation of her probation.

I don't imagine she wants to leave her child in the car. She presumably has to work and make money to survive and it isn't really a realistic option to take a child inside when cleaning someone's house.

I don't see how putting her in jail does anything but make the situation worse.

@Gerorge Peele the problem doesnt seem that the child was necissarily left in the car but that she hardly checked up on her child. The police seemed to emphasize whether or not she was checking on the child every 15-20 minutes. Evidence supports she went long durations without doing so.

Secondly in the description provided this wasn't the first occurence of her doing this as she was caught doing the s a me thing but while she was drinking at a bar. I am sure if she checked up on her baby more frequently or made an attempt to ask the homeowner about bringing the child in that this could have been negated. The homeowner had no idea she had a child with her so the only option the mother left herself was to frequently check up on her child which she didn't do.

@SchlongusHumongus When a 6 month old is at home in bed at night, does a mother have to check them by law every 15 to 20 minutes? The answer is obviously no, so why does checking a child every 45 minutes during day time amount to a crime?

The police also conceded that the baby was uninjured but 'appeared' uncomfortable. I have never seen a baby that has been woken up that doesn't look uncomfortable. Have you?
