Florida man throws cash out window while leading Pearland police on chase

PEARLAND, Texas – Two men from Florida have been arrested after Pearland police investigated suspicious ATM activity and ultimately were led on a chase.

The Pearland Police Department says it happened on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at approximately 6 p.m. when officers were dispatched to a bank in the 9900 block of Broadway Street after getting reports of suspicious activity in the ATM drive-thru.

Officers were told that a masked man was making multiple transactions using several different cards and withdrawing large amounts of cash.

As officers were responding, the suspect was seen getting into the passenger seat of white GMC Sierra, which then left the area.

With the help of a drone, an officer found the truck in the parking lot of a business in the 2500 block of Smith Ranch Road.

The passenger got out of the truck and began to walk away, but was detained by the officer. The driver, who was still inside the truck, took off.

Other officers attempted to pull over the truck, but the suspect refused to stop. The suspect began throwing large amounts of cash out the window of the truck, which was caught on dash cam video.

The vehicle eventually stopped in the 1600 block of Max Road. Officers took the suspect into custody without further incident.

Officers recovered more than $6,000 in cash that had been thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit.

The passenger was identified as Tarvares Givens, of Florida, and was arrested and charged with Failure to Identify. The driver was identified as Levon Steven Jr., of Florida, and was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest and Tampering with Evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident for additional fraud-related charges.

At the time of this post both Givens and Steven are currently in custody at the Brazoria County Jail.
