“Journalism” often manipulates “facts”

George Bush Sr. was in front of the press being shown new POS systems. He asked “how do they work?” Simply on the basis of advances in registers for transactions.

Instead the press piled on to say he is so disconnected from Americans that he doesn’t know how buying groceries works. Many believed it and the “facts” were manipulated.

@uberschadenfreude Bush was already familiar with that POS system, even more than most of the general population.

He met the manufacturer at a trade show earlier in his term. The CEO showed him it was next generation retail tech. What was different was the scale was integrated in such a way to weigh items to narrow down for manual selection when code wasn't scanning. It also had an additional barcode scanner with improved optics.

He recognized the brand name and was telling everyone around he met the guy and showing them all the improvements. That's when the enemy press twisted it as him being out of touch.
