An attempted homicide occurred in Kirberg, western Hesse, on Sunday morning. A 50-year-old man allegedly seriously injured his wife with a kitchen knife in a bakery in Kirberg. According to initial findings, bystanders intervened and prevented the man from carrying out further attacks. NIUS has video footage of the incident.

Around 11 a.m., a 50-year-old man entered a bakery on Wassergasse. His estranged wife was also present at the time. According to the West Hesse Police Headquarters , the man attacked her with a kitchen knife while they were still inside the bakery. She suffered multiple serious stab and slash wounds. Despite her injuries, she managed to escape.
In response to an inquiry the public prosecutor's office in Limburg an der Lahn stated that the suspect holds German citizenship but was born in Kazakhstan. Due to the ongoing investigation, the prosecutor's office could not answer questions regarding how long he has lived in Germany, when he acquired German citizenship, whether there is any indication of an attempted honor killing, and whether he has a criminal record.
