Require city managers and county officials to approve only data centers that are self-sustainable or have minimal impact on existing infrastructure and resources. If a company wants to build a data center, make it responsible for providing its own power, water, cooling, and other necessary resources to the greatest extent technologically feasible.
If all you've been told is that “data centers are bad,” do some research. You might be surprised by what is actually possible with modern technology.
Do we really want to hinder opportunities for our children and grandchildren while China and other countries race ahead in technology and artificial intelligence?
We should demand responsible development—not simply shut the door on progress.

I have no problem with data centers. They aren't loud, especially in comparison to many other industries which are WAY louder. The assertion that they use so much water is BS, the new designs recycle the water, and on net use very little. They do use a lot of energy. Rich countries use a lot of energy. Poor ones do not. We need and want more energy production. The Left wants to choke off energy usage. Data centers bring tons of jobs during construction, and some permanent jobs, typically around 30, and as many as 200.

The upside of data centers is a further beefed up internet, and better AI. We are working towards Artificial General Intelligence. The hope is massive productivity gains, and thus a massive increase in wealth for the society as a whole. Some will benefit more than others, that's how markets work. Socialist systems also work in a way that some benefit greatly, while many more get the crappy end of the stick.
