A 14-year-old opened fire at a school in Nonthaburi, Thailand this morning.

8 were reportedly killed and more than 20 students and staff were injured.

The shooter was found dead (by suicide) at the scene.

Thai officials describe the attack as appearing planned, but the motive is still under investigation, with mentions of the suspect being under academic stress...

School shootings are just so f***ing tragic...

If they wouldn't televise this stuff and put it in the media, there wouldn't be a much of it. Most of these are copycat killers.

Academic stress? What is this bullshit? If someone does this, there must be a damn reason! Of course, the inconvenient truth is going to be swept under the rug, as always.

@oroboros In some asian countries academic stress is a thing and can be way worse, than most students on the western hemisphere ever encounter (and being older, and in university). Family expectations at average are usually higher there, and the high-stakes tests and strict entrance exams they take in high schools, can truly determine their future lives. Universities sad to be easy compared to high schools..

@oroboros Sometimes it is how it is. School shootings in the US are mostly because of mental disorders + medication + family issues + bullying (mostly in that order. Meanwhile the ones bullied in f.e. Japan are still the ones who stick out from the group, yet there the victims there are mostly the underachievers, who cannot or won't learn (in the US they would be probably the bullies, not the bullied).

Children in general can be real harsh on each other, that is a mini-adult society. In japan due to the nationwide group policies about usefulness for the person - self, the family, the nation, the country; it is a forever lasting stigma to be an outkast. Many bullied cannot endure it, even without physical harassment, and commit suicide..
