A teen had to be rescued Sunday by lifeguards at Sunset Cliffs after being injured while jumping from a cliff ledge.

A video posted on social media shows the 17-year-old jumping off the cliff, striking the edge of the cliff and then landing in the water. At least six people jumped in after him to help.

San Diego lifeguards pulled the teenager out of the water and took him to a hospital at around 4:30 p.m. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

Video appeared to show the teenager conscious, sitting on a cliff ledge surrounded by several people, before lifeguards arrived to help.

"As a reminder, cliff jumping is not only extremely dangerous but also against the law in San Diego," said San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesperson Candace Hadley.
