Manchester, CT - Body camera footage shows a Manchester police officer shooting an 18-year-old man while responding to a domestic disturbance call.
At 11 p.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to a residence at Parker Street in Manchester in response to a report of an active domestic disturbance, police said.
The preliminary investigation concluded David Cordero was involved in a “domestic incident” at the home.
The caller stated that Cordero was “out of control” and was “smashing things in the house,” according to the OIG report. The caller said that the suspect was armed with a kitchen knife.
At the scene, the first responding officer saw Cordero chasing a man in the roadway on Parker Street, according to body-worn camera footage.
The officer then ordered Cordero to stop and pulled out their department-issued firearm, according to the bodycam video.
Within a second, the officer shot at Cordero three times, striking him in the shoulder, according to the video.
Cordero is then seen lying in the road, according to the bodycam footage.
Despite being told by dispatch that the suspect was armed with a knife, officials did not recover a knife from the area in which Cordero was shot, the OIG report said.
Officers gave medical aid to Cordero until emergency medical personnel arrived for transport to a trauma center for treatment, officials said. Cordero was subsequently released from the hospital and arrested in connection with the incident.
Cordero was charged with third-degree assault, first-degree criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and third-degree criminal mischief.
His charges are pending in Manchester Superior Court.
