President Trump signs a presidential memo to make it easier for Americans to repair their own cars by protecting the right to fix vehicles and opening up more options for approving aftermarket parts.

"It came to my attention because I noticed they were arresting people for fixing their car."

"We rule by common sense."

Cat converter off and knock the matrix out with a star drill for best performance. No emission nazis where I live. Truck has a straight pipe with a spiral baffle. Knocks out the high tones and leaves the low.

That law was enacted and was pushed by the Democrat run EPA for decades in regard to emission components repairs.
Not the big 3.

Just replace a clogged catalytic converter with a used one was a crime.
And, even if you replaced it with a new one, the repair HAD to be done by an Emission Control Certified Mechanic at around $800 at the minimum.
The average cost was $3,000 to $5,000.

He is stopping that forced gouging by the EPA.

@Cripple $800 minimum?! That's a best case scenario. I've been an automotive tech since '88, and I've never replaced a cat for that cheap! That's usually just the price of the part.

@JobyFluorine
Yep! My buudy who owns a shop.
Go back to 2002.
Part-$400, labor- $400

That is where I came up with that low ball figure.

Neede it done on a 1996 Mercury Gran Marquis.

Ended up just putting in a "test pipe" for $85 !!!!

Thanks. Now make it so Apple doesn’t turn phones into a labyrinth to self repair

@Lemmiwinks If you don't absolutely need an Apple device, switch to one of the cell phones that promote self repair. I switched away from all Apple products years ago, and I've saved thousands of dollars.

From my perspective, Apple is anti consumer, anti repair and, as a company, epitomizes anti trust and bad faith.

It's about it being a crime to modify the emission systems on your car. Replacing one of its compounds fell under that category for awhile.

Who tf was arrested? That's news to me.

@JobyFluorine
There was only one arrest, and it turned out to be a wrongful arrest. The victim received 80k in damages from the city.

@rightisleft For fixing his phone!?!

@JobyFluorine who cares. Just the fact that ford and gm asked trump to make it illegal for people other than them to work on their vehicles, that wouldve been catastrophic for those car makers because sales would drop to almost nothing. Soo glad trump signed this order.

@itrustno1 Ford, GM and Dodge have always been anti repair, but now they are REALLY leaning into it! Everyone else is also hoping on the bandwagon, too.
