The Tampa Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who shot and killed a man on a crowded street Sunday night.
A press conference will be held at 11:45 a.m. to share more details about the case.
Officers near West Main Street and North Albany Avenue heard shots being fired at a large gathering just after 10 p.m.
Shortly after, officers located 29-year-old Kevondre Thomas in critical condition and began rendering aid. He was taken to the hospital and later died of his injuries.
Witnesses from the scene told police that there was a verbal altercation between “unknown parties” that then escalated to gunfire. The volume of people at the gathering prevented officers from identifying who shot Thomas, TPD said.
The department rejected rumors that a TPD officer was involved in the shooting and said no officers fired their weapons during the incident.
