A private jet has crashed while attempting an emergency landing at La Romana International Airport in the Dominican Republic, authorities said on Sunday.

The aircraft reportedly encountered difficulties before seeking to land at the airport. It crashed during the emergency landing attempt, prompting a response from emergency services. A video posted on social media showed a huge plume of smoke at the airport, while water trucks sprayed water to try to control a fire. The director of the Civil Aviation Board, Hector Porcella, told AFP that he still did not know the details of the accident.
According to local media reports, two crew members died following the crash. The plane reported an engine failure shortly after takeoff. The crew notified the control tower of a loss of power in one engine and requested immediate return. The crash occurred during the emergency landing maneuver.
