The investigation has revealed that, when officer Hernandez arrived at the scene, the suspect, Armando Silva, 29, immediately attacked him with a large kitchen knife. After stabbing officer Hernandez, Silva, a man with a history of crimes and mental illness, tried attacking a bystander who witnessed the unprovoked attack on Hernandez. That witness retrieved his own firearm, shot and killed Silva.

«@ubi those who would speak in such a manner as his are not likely men of action so their words carry no weight for they're not based on an understanding of action. It's a waste of time trying to reason such things with those who have no experience worth mentioning in the dealing of violence. A more realistic assessment of the situation is why did he close so much distance between himself and an unknown person without holding a safer distance and reading the person's demeanor first? It isn't unreasonable to maintain a twenty foot distance or more with your hand at the ready if you're uncertain of whether you're speaking to the caller or the criminal. I'll be honest. I think police have so much backup, weapons and armor that he had a false sense of security and so approached an unknown person in an over confident manner. I'm not trying to speak I'll of the fallen.»

«@ubi Exactly. Had the officer shot the bastard the complaints would be, "He gunned down a defenseless lamb polishing his kitchen knife!”»

«A person with a knife can travel twenty one feet in one second. This is the reason why police often shoot knife wielding suspects while the police appear to be a safe distance away from attack. There's videos on youtube demonstrating the shocking twenty one feet closing distance. RIP to the officer who never had much of a chance and awesome job by the civilian taking out the trash»

«See what happens when you skip the formal officer to crook greeting?
It goes:
"Sir, quit resisting."
"I can't breave, officer."

«I'm surprised they released this footage»

«All they needed was the body cam footage of the coos showing up and i would have nominated that video for a ‘gore site oscar’ for best gore, picture, sound, filming (4 stars), and film quality! That picture nearly had everything!

Also, super terrible n all that, dont kill people kids!
Your filming would be terrible anyway. Favelas need body cams. Just an idea, cartels.

«It's a tragedy that the officer died. No matter how prepared they are nobody will ever be invulnerable but I suspect that adding high intensity sparring with wooden knives to their training would be advantageous for people who deal with scumbags on a regular basis. Hopefully officers will be more prepared for this type of thing from now on.»
