Lee County, FL - Bodycam video shows Florida deputies Taser a 60-year-old child molestation suspect after he suddenly grabs a large kitchen knife.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says its Fugitive Warrants Unit arrested Patrick Baron on Wednesday morning on an active felony warrant for lewd or lascivious molestation involving a child.
Detectives say they began investigating Baron in January after allegations surfaced that he had preyed on a child and engaged in inappropriate sexual contact.
Investigators say that forensic evidence ultimately secured the arrest warrant.
According to Baron's criminal probable cause affidavit, the child told deputies that Baron showed inappropriate images on a tablet and inappropriately touched her during an incident at a family home. A forensic interview conducted at the Children’s Advocacy Center reportedly supported the allegations.
The victim later identified Baron in a photo lineup, per investigators.
On Wednesday, detectives moved in on Baron at his home to serve a warrant for molestation.
Deputies say they observed him inside his home and issued commands through an open window and door.
Bodycam footage from a responding deputy shows Baron suddenly grab a large kitchen knife and threaten to harm himself, repeating that he was "not going to jail."
A fast-thinking deputy grabbed a taser and deployed it, causing Baron to drop to the ground with the knife in hand, per LCSO.
He was later found to have stabbed himself once in the stomach during the incident, according to authorities. He was treated at Gulf Coast Hospital before being medically cleared and transported to the Lee County Jail.
