It happened yesterday, Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Garland, Texas, near the intersection of State Highway 66 and Dairy Road.
Around 3:30 p.m., Garland police responded to a multi-vehicle crash. The suspect, described only as a Hispanic man whose name has not yet been released, was driving a green car that collided with two other vehicles. All of the drivers involved pulled into a nearby gas station.
At the gas station, the suspect attempted to carjack several vehicles by force. He checked door handles and briefly entered one car, but he was unable to drive it away. His attempts failed.
He then crossed Dairy Road on foot and entered a convenience store parking lot. A white Chevrolet Impala sedan pulled in with a male driver, two adult women, and five children inside. The suspect immediately attempted to carjack the vehicle as the driver was exiting. A physical struggle broke out.
During the altercation, the Impala driver pulled out a handgun and shot the suspect at least once. The suspect was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured.
