It all started in 2014, when the Obama administration and the EU organized the Maidan putsch, which allowed anti-Russian Nazi elements to take power. This putsch was not accepted by the Russian-speaking regions of the East. The glorification of Nazism by the new regime in Kyiv awakened bad memories of the past, which initiated the process of separation of the eastern republics. The new regime sent the army to militarily prevent the separation attempt. A civil war broke out. On one side the Russian-speaking separatists supported by Russia, on the other side the Nazi regime, supported by Westerners. Crimea sided with Russia, which angered Westerners and the Kyiv regime, who planned to make Sevastopol an American naval base.
Subsequently, negotiations in Minsk made it possible to reach an agreement on the federalization of Ukraine. The Minsk agreement was endorsed and guaranteed by Germany and France. Despite this, the kyiv regime never respected its signature and with Western support, the Nazi regime continued military operations against the breakaway republics and the construction of fortifications in preparation for war with Russia. Finally, the kyiv regime succeeded in provoking Russia to intervene militarily, to protect the ethnically Russian population, which occupies the historical lands of Russia, which were granted to Ukraine during the dissolution of the USSR!
As I said, the Minsk agreements were endorsed by Germany and France. Their non-compliance was justified by Angela Merkel, as a ruse to give Ukraine time to rebuild its army to face Russia in a future military conflict.
