A US destroyer opened fire on an Iranian cargo vessel near the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian vessel Touska was warned for six hours before attempting to breach the blockade. The USS Spruance then fired on the ship and blow a hole in the engine room which disabled the vessel. Then US marines boarded the vessel and took control.

Likely they were inert rounds of lead or polymer coated steel and went in one side and out the other.

@0falcon0 LOL. Shells don't all explode on impact. Shells could be set with delay fuzes for controlled explosion or not at all. US didn't want to sink the vessel or cause a big explosion. They just wanted to disable the vessel.
