A driver was flung from behind the wheel of an army truck after a car swerved in front of a convoy on the A43.
Crenguta Aruxandei, 44, of Old Factory Way, Northampton, abruptly took the exit for Hulcote, Northamptonshire, pulling in front of a military Land Rover Defender and causing the driver to take evasive action to avoid a collision.
Video shows the military vehicle and its trailer repeatedly rolling across both lanes before coming to rest as another Land Rover manages to stop safely.
Two men sustained serious injuries, including the military Land Rover driver, who suffered a suspected fractured back, after the incident on 10 January.
Aruxandei was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, after pleading guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by careless/inconsiderate driving.
The 44-year-old admitted the charges at an earlier hearing in February, when the same court heard that at 8.35am on Friday, January 10, 2025, Aruxandei was travelling in the outside lane on the A43 dual carriageway.
As she approached the junction for Hulcote, Aruxandei pulled in front of a green military Land Rover Defender, which was travelling in a convoy on the inside lane, causing the driver to take evasive action to avoid a collision.
However, as the Land Rover driver swerved into the outside lane to avoid Aruxandei’s grey Audi Q2, the military vehicle collided with the central reservation causing it to roll multiple times.
The 36-year-old driver was thrown from the Land Rover and sustained a suspected fractured back and was taken to the University Hospital Coventry, while his 31-year-old male passenger was taken to Northampton General Hospital with a significant head injury.
Aruxandei went on to be charged and at Northampton Magistrates’ Court she opted to go to trial at the county’s crown court, but on February 5, she changed her plea before a jury had been sworn it.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Aruxandei was disqualified from driving for 12 months and must sit an extended test before re-gaining her licence. She was also ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
Following sentencing, lead investigator Detective Constable Eleanor Hudson of the Force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Holding a driving licence is a privilege and a responsibility and there is no place on our roads for drivers who put the lives of innocent members of the public at risk.
