Brazil: Security camera footage captured the moment an assailant attempted to kill a woman and was restrained by a mechanic. The incident occurred in Ponte Nova, in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais.

A man was killed after attacking his ex-partner with a hatchet in the Santo Antônio neighborhood, in Ponte Nova , in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais, on Wednesday afternoon (8). A security camera recorded the attempted femicide.

CCTV footage shows the moment when the assailant, identified as Reginaldo Superbi Pinheiro , 40, got off a motorcycle and tried to kill the 39-year-old woman. While she was on the ground, the suspect was restrained by a bicycle mechanic, who used a metal bar to strike him ( see video above ).

According to the Military Police, the victim of the attempted femicide suffered deep cuts to the head and was subsequently rescued by witnesses. Her ex-partner was pronounced dead at the scene by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU).

According to the corporation, the woman had a protective order against Reginaldo Superbi Pinheiro. He had left prison on Tuesday (7), one day before the crime .

'Before I get arrested, you're going to die.'
According to the police, a witness said that he was walking alongside the victim when the assailant got off his motorcycle and said: "Before I'm arrested, you're going to die." Then, he pulled a hatchet from his waist and began attacking his ex-girlfriend.

Subsequently, a bicycle mechanic emerged from a workshop and used a metal bar to strike the suspect, who fell to the ground. He told police that he heard cries for help and intervened to save the woman from the attacks.

The 31-year-old mechanic waited for the police to arrive and was taken to a police station to give a statement, initially for serious bodily injury resulting in death. According to the Civil Police, he was released after being questioned.

The institution is investigating the case. The inquiry is being handled by the 1st Civil Police Station in Ponte Nova.

The weapons and objects used by those involved in the incident were seized by the Military Police.
