METAIRIE, La. — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating after a deputy shot a suspect during a drug arrest in Metairie on Tuesday.

According to Sheriff Joe Lopinto, deputies were making a drug arrest in the 2500 block of Pasadena Avenue.

Lopinto said they were attempting to arrest two adults when a third person approached them and pointed a gun at deputies.

One detective fired his service weapon multiple times, and the suspect was struck several times, according to Lopinto.

According to Lopinto, the suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is currently in surgery.
