Columbia, MD - Howard County leaders said many questions remain after a 25-year-old Columbia man was shot and killed by police.
The Maryland Attorney General's Office's Independent Investigations Division continues to investigate the police shooting on March 1 in which three county police officers opened fire and fatally shot Alex Lamorie, 25, outside his Columbia apartment. Lamorie had autism, though officials said it is unclear whether responding officers were aware of that during the encounter.
According to police, Lamorie himself called 911 earlier that day to report that he believed he was the victim of an online extortion scheme. Police said officers encountered Lamorie outside his apartment and that he was holding a knife.
"Alex reported that he believed he had been a victim of an extortion scam," Howard County Police Chief Gregory Der said at a news conference Thursday morning. "After exchanging personal information and photos online with someone who claimed to be a young woman, Alex received a threat from the individual stating that the private exchanges would be released unless money was paid."

Oh, but he was loved by everyone. Would give you the shirt off his back. Volunteered all the time bla bla bla.
