Video shows the SUV traveling south in the northbound lanes at high speed for at least 45 seconds

Oncoming drivers swerved to avoid the SUV before it slowed and struck the tanker truck

The SUV driver, a man from Beaumont, had exited the vehicle and was leaning over the hood when bystanders and the truck driver helped him

First responders arrived at the scene, and the crash remains under investigation
