KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A jury has found Kaiden Cole, 18, guilty of all charges in the April 2025 shooting death of Montine Wiley. Cole, 18, a Harper Creek High School senior, was charged with open murder, felony firearm and carrying a concealed weapon after Wiley, 27, was shot and killed while working at a private event outside Green Door Distilling in Kalamazoo.
Cole could be sentenced to up to life in prison. Prior to Thursday's verdict, Kalamazoo County Judge Judge Rebecca J. D'Angelo closed the courtroom to the public as people had been acting inappropriately and were being loud during Cole's trial. Immediate family members, however, were still allowed to be inside the courtroom, Williams said. Anyone who was not immediate family was be able to watch the trial on a video feed. After the courtroom closed, tensions carried on outside the courthouse.
A fight broke out between individuals associated with both Cole and Wiley. The fight was defused quickly by law enforcement, Williams said.
