HARTFORD, Conn. — A man carrying a knife was shot by a Hartford police officer on Blue Hills Avenue late Friday morning, according to police.
Office of Inspector General releases preliminary report on Hartford police officer shooting, killing man
Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert said officers responded just after 11 a.m. to the 600 block of Blue Hills Avenue for a report of a “suicidal man” holding a knife. The man did not respond to officers’ requests to drop the knife, Boisvert said.
Officers attempted to stop the man using a taser, which was unsuccessful, according to Boisvert. An officer shot the man, and he was transported to the hospital, where police said he is in critical condition.
Blue Hills Avenue is currently closed between Tower Avenue and East Burnham Street, police said. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes and avoid the area until further notice.
The Connecticut Office of Inspector General is investigating the shooting.
