Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) released a video of an officer-involved shooting that occurred on January 31.
CSPD said officers responded to a report of a disturbance between two people that could involve a firearm around 10 p.m. at the 1200 block of Delaware Drive, a few blocks north of the Citadel Mall.
Upon getting to the scene, officers said they tried to speak with a woman who they believed was involved in the disturbance. They said she was not carrying a rifle, as reports stated, but she was carrying a knife.
CSPD said the woman ran from officers, even after orders to stop. She reportedly dropped the knife as officers chased her.
According to police, the woman then hopped in a marked CSPD cruiser and attempted to drive away. Officers then attempted to pull her from the vehicle after previously ordering her to exit.
An officer on the passenger side of the vehicle saw her reach for a firearm inside the patrol vehicle, and that is when police said the officer fired three times, striking the woman twice. She was then removed from the vehicle, taken into custody, and provided medical aid.
Officers said they found a knife that the woman was carrying during the pursuit at the scene.
The woman was identified by CSPD as 30-year-old Micaela Pasillas. Police said she was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She has since been booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for felony menacing.
