On December 12, 2025, at approximately 12:24 p.m., Bellevue Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a verbal argument between a male and female at the Bellevue Transit Center (10850 NE 6th Street). The caller, later identified as Mohamed Morray Bangura, 38, provided limited details and refused to identify himself fully.
Two officers—Sean Winebrenner and Guilherme Spagnolo—arrived and contacted Bangura. He mentioned a prior interaction with another officer ("Officer Grogan tried to put a false case on me") but did not elaborate on the reported argument.
Bangura then pulled a knife from his jacket pocket and attacked. He first lunged at Officer Spagnolo, who evaded the strike. Bangura then turned to Officer Winebrenner, slashing his face (causing a significant laceration) and stabbing him twice in the back and shoulder area as the officer fell.
Officer Spagnolo fired six rounds, striking Bangura three times (right arm, left leg, left flank). Both the injured officer and Bangura received immediate aid from arriving officers and were transported to Harborview Medical Center.
Officer Winebrenner (29) sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries (facial laceration, dislocated shoulder, broken clavicle) and was reported in satisfactory condition. Bangura was in critical/serious condition initially but survived.
