Miami-Dade, Florida — On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, just before 5:30 a.m., Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office Cyber Crimes Bureau Deputies were executing a search warrant with the assistance of the Special Response Team (SRT) at a home in the area of SW 155 Street and SW 102 Place. The warrant was connected to an internet crimes against children investigation. The subject of the warrant was 25-year-old Cristian Barata. Upon arrival at the home, deputies used a long range acoustic device to announce the search warrant and instructed the occupants to open the door and come outside. Through a window, a deputy could see multiple individuals inside the residence. SRT breached the front door and safely removed a man, two women and a child from the home. Seconds later, 21-year-old Christopher Barata walked into the living room while holding a handgun. Two deputies discharged their service weapons. Christopher Barata was the brother of Cristian Barata, the subject of the search warrant. After the deputies fired, Cristian Barata emerged from a hallway and was detained. Deputies provided medical aid until the arrival of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel. Christopher Barata was pronounced deceased at the scene. Christopher Barata's firearm was recovered at the scene. Cristian Barata, the subject of the search warrant, was arrested and charged with the following: Sexual Performance by a Child, Possession of Images, Sexual Performance by a Child, Promote or Attempt. No deputies or uninvolved community members were injured during this incident.
