On January 21, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a violent incident began near the 900 block of Capitol Expressway in San Jose, California. An armed suspect entered a car dealership, stole a green Corvette, and fled the area before officers arrived.
The San Jose Police Department used a vehicle tracking system and air support to locate the Corvette and pursue it southbound on Highway 101 into San Benito County, eventually reaching the city of Hollister.
Around 3:00 p.m., following a slow-speed pursuit involving Hollister police officers and San Benito County deputies, the suspect abandoned the Corvette near Buena Vista Road and Westside Boulevard.
The suspect exited the vehicle while armed, leading to a shooting. It is unclear who fired first, but no local officers were injured. The suspect fled on foot and was located again nearby, resulting in a second shooting. He then carjacked a white sedan at gunpoint and drove north toward San Jose, firing shots during the pursuit.
The chase ended in downtown San Jose near Julian Street and Highway 87. The suspect crashed into another vehicle, exited, and exchanged gunfire with officers. He attempted to carjack an additional vehicle but was struck by a police vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
During the final confrontation, an SJPD sergeant was shot by the suspect and transported to a hospital. He remains in critical but stable condition and is expected to survive.

This looks so fake. Where are the bullet holes through the back window? Wouldn’t it have shattered from that distance?
