A 51-year-old contract labourer, Sivalingam, was killed when a parked lorry moved on its own near Old Attai Kuddon on the Arani–Devikapuram road.

Noticing the runaway vehicle, Sivalingam tried to stop the lorry but was caught under its rear wheels, causing fatal injuries. He died at the scene.

Local residents immediately alerted the police. Arani Town police recovered the body and sent it to the government hospital.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the causes of the accident.
