Registration and VIN checks were inconsistent and the steering column showed damage, suggesting the car may have been stolen. Additional deputies and a Palomar College police officer responded. The 33-year-old male passenger ignored repeated commands, rolled up his window, reached to the floorboard and armed himself with a semiautomatic handgun. Deputies safely removed the 21-year-old female driver from the vehicle. The passenger refused orders to drop the weapon and raised the gun. Five deputies and the officer opened fire, fatally striking him.

San Diego Police release Calmest Fatal Shooting Ever

The San Diego Police Department is committed to being open and transparent with the public.
