MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 19-year-old is now in jail after opening fire in a clothing store, leaving a boy critically injured on Sunday afternoon. Ambrose Ramsey is charged with criminal attempt first-degree murder, employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony, possession of a prohibited weapon, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. Around 3:20 p.m., Memphis Police say they responded to an aggravated assault call involving a firearm being discharged at the Village Mart Clothes and Footwear store on South Bellevue Boulevard. Police say the suspect opened fire inside the store, where there were eleven customers present. A boy was found lying on the floor suffering from gunshot wounds to his leg. He was then taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. The suspect was described as wearing a black skullcap, black jeans, and a black hoodie sweatshirt. Police say he was captured on camera coming into the store and firing multiple rounds. During the investigation, police say an adult victim reported that he was the intended target inside the clothing store. The victim told police that they were in the store purchasing clothes when they looked over their shoulder and made eye contact with the suspect, who he knows. That is when the suspect is accused of pulling out a gun and began shooting at the victim. Officers say he was grazed in his right leg. Ramsey was developed as a suspect at that time and positively identified in a six-person photographic lineup as the person responsible for the shooting. In the video surveillance of the shooting, police say the suspect appeared to be firing a Glock-style semiautomatic pistol equipped with a machine gun conversion device, referred to as a Glock switch that causes the gun to fire multiple rounds rapidly in a fully automatic manner. Ramsey is currently being held in jail on a $250,000 bond. Three people were arrested during a No Kings protest in downtown Memphis back in March, though their charges later were dropped. MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department (MPD) on Tuesday released body camera footage showing the moment a suspect shot a police officer during a traffic stop in February. The shooting happened on the night of Feb. 26. Police had reported that Ofc. Oscar Torres-Molina pulled over a white car near Aloha Avenue and South Perkins in the Parkway Village neighborhood. The newly released footage shows the interaction between the officer and the suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Danell Maxwell. In the video, Maxwell tells the officer that he has a gun. As both of them walked to the officer's squad car, the officer asked Maxwell if the VIN number on one of his car doors "always been scratched off like that." Moments later, the video shows Maxwell pulling out a gun and shooting Torres-Molina. The footage continues, showing Maxwell looking at the officer on the ground. MPD had previously reported that Torres-Molina was shot in the face. He was hospitalized for several days and released. Last week, police said the officer was still recovering. Maxwell was arrested Thursday at an apartment complex in Cordova. National Guard tackled content creator Chrishaun Akins, known as South Memphis HypeMan, on Beale Street in Memphis over the weekend. HypeMan was swinging his belt near a group of women. He says he thinks the Guard thought he was part of a nearby fight. He claims he may have injured his shoulder and forearm and is planning to get an X-ray: “I’m in pain, I’m feeling bad... I’m sad, my emotions are built up bad. They didn’t understand that at all; they just looked at me like I was nobody.” Or maybe they thought he was attacking the women? The National Guard was reportedly on Beale Street, patrolling the entertainment districts, as part of the Memphis Safe Task Force, launched in late 2025 with the goal of driving down violent crime in busy public areas. Officials report a significant decline in crime in Memphis, citing a 25-year low and a 43% to 44% drop in overall crime during the fourth quarter of 2025, largely attributed to the Memphis Safe Task Force. Just the presence of uniformed law enforcement and/or troops can help reduce violent crime. MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people are wanted after a man dropped his handgun inside a Raleigh convenience store on Saturday and accidentally shot a customer in the leg, Memphis Police say. On Feb. 21, around 6:50 p.m., officers responded to the shooting in the 4500 block of Stage Road. MPD was told that the victim was standing at the counter when a male wearing a gray True Religion jacket walked behind her, armed with a handgun. 2 arrested, mother and child injured after Hickory Hill carjacking Officers said the male dropped the handgun, causing it to go off. One round went into the victim’s right leg. According to MPD, both males ran out of the store and fled in a 2012-2016 White Chevrolet Cruze. Police said the first suspect was wearing a white shirt, a gray True Religion jacket with black letters, and white Jordans, armed with a handgun.
