MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 19-year-old is now in jail after opening fire in a clothing store, leaving a boy critically injured on Sunday afternoon.
Ambrose Ramsey is charged with criminal attempt first-degree murder, employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony, possession of a prohibited weapon, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.
Around 3:20 p.m., Memphis Police say they responded to an aggravated assault call involving a firearm being discharged at the Village Mart Clothes and Footwear store on South Bellevue Boulevard.
Police say the suspect opened fire inside the store, where there were eleven customers present.
A boy was found lying on the floor suffering from gunshot wounds to his leg. He was then taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.
The suspect was described as wearing a black skullcap, black jeans, and a black hoodie sweatshirt. Police say he was captured on camera coming into the store and firing multiple rounds.
During the investigation, police say an adult victim reported that he was the intended target inside the clothing store.
The victim told police that they were in the store purchasing clothes when they looked over their shoulder and made eye contact with the suspect, who he knows.
That is when the suspect is accused of pulling out a gun and began shooting at the victim.
Officers say he was grazed in his right leg.
Ramsey was developed as a suspect at that time and positively identified in a six-person photographic lineup as the person responsible for the shooting.
In the video surveillance of the shooting, police say the suspect appeared to be firing a Glock-style semiautomatic pistol equipped with a machine gun conversion device, referred to as a Glock switch that causes the gun to fire multiple rounds rapidly in a fully automatic manner.
Ramsey is currently being held in jail on a $250,000 bond. He is due in court on Thursday morning.
