Andreas Christopheros opened his front door and a stranger threw a beaker of sulphuric acid in his face. The acid was so strong his shirt dissolved off his body and it burned through the floor of his hallway. His wife burned her own feet trying to drag him to the shower. The man had driven 300 miles for revenge and knocked on the wrong door. Andreas lost an eye and his eyelids. He would later say he'd rather have been shot.

December 2014, a quiet street in Cornwall. Andreas was working from home, building a new business. A normal day before Christmas.

From his office window he noticed a red van. A few minutes later, someone knocked.

In the video below he tells it himself. He opened the door like anyone would. In one motion the man said "this is for you, mate" and the acid hit him. He didn't even have time to blink.

His wife ran downstairs and found him screaming.

Police later caught the attacker. He had gone to the wrong address. Andreas was never the target.

He went through endless skin grafts. He wore a pressure mask on his face every day.

His business folded. His son was 2.

He says he refuses to be defined by it.

The best thing to do in a situation like this is soapy water. Soap is a base and counter acts acid.

I have a small scar on my chest from an acid burn in the acid plant I worked in. It's not the high strength acid that burns so badly or quickly, it's the lower strength acid. It burns instantly and it hurts like a muthafucka! When you put water on, it burns even worse for a second or two until it is diluted.

I can't imagine what this guy went through and what he continues to go through.
