A spectacular pile-up occurred on the Arco Norte highway, at the curve leading up to Ajoloapan, on the border of the State of Mexico and Hidalgo, after a crane lost control, crashed into the retaining walls and ended up engulfed in flames, causing traffic disruptions for several hours.

According to initial reports, the accident occurred on the Ajoloapan-Pachuca section of the highway, between kilometers 115 and 117. The emergency stemmed from a series of previous incidents, including a rear-end collision and a pickup truck rollover, which complicated traffic conditions in the area.

In that context, a crane operator was unable to stop the unit in time, lost control, and crashed into the guardrails. After the impact, the vehicle caught fire, creating a high-risk situation for motorists and personnel in the area.

The accident resulted in a multi-vehicle pileup involving several cars, including a pickup truck and a livestock trailer. Authorities reported a total of nine vehicles involved.

Emergency crews, along with highway personnel and security officers, responded to the scene to control the fire, treat the injured, and remove the damaged vehicles. The preliminary report indicated five people with minor injuries; no fatalities were reported.

Due to cleanup and repair work, traffic on the Arco Norte highway remained closed for several hours. Authorities later reopened some lanes and, after completing the work, reported that traffic had fully resumed, although significant congestion was reported in both directions.
