Shelley Lubben, a former porn star, says the porn industry damaged her body in ways she never expected.
Shelley: “After about 30 movies, I caught two sexually transmitted diseases.”
“One was HPV, which I had never even heard of, and the other was herpes, an incurable disease.”
“I had herpes on my mouth, lips, throat, vagina and anus. It devastated me. I tried to kill myself with prescription pills because I didn’t care anymore.”
“I had to have half of my cervix removed because of the damage, and I couldn’t have babies after that.”
“I lost four children because of the damage to my sexual organs.”
I’m 43 now, and I still have problems with my period and my cervix.
“The porn industry promised me glamour, fame, fortune and safety. Instead, I was left dealing with lasting physical consequences.”
But Shelley Lubben’s story didn’t end with the damage she experienced in the porn industry.
After leaving porn, Shelley became a born-again Christian and dedicated much of her life to speaking publicly about the dangers she believed the industry posed to performers.
She became an author and founded the Pink Cross Foundation, an organization focused on helping people leave the pornography industry.
Shelley died on February 9, 2019, at the age of 50.
Her story remains a complicated one, but her later life was centered around trying to warn others about what she believed she had experienced firsthand.
