It’s now confirmed true what they say… New Yorkers really do not know how to drive.

The high-speed wreck unfolded around 6:30 a.m. at West 204th Street and Sherman Avenue in Inwood, where the Corvette driver, 27-year-old Eric Torres, struck a Mercedes before hitting 34-year-old pedestrian and a building. Torres, his passenger, and the pedestrian were hospitalized in stable condition at Harlem Hospital; the Mercedes driver fled on foot and remains at large. Torres faces charges of reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and aggravated unlicensed operation, as locals vent frustration over repeated street racing at the spot.

Cops have arrested a 27-year-old Mercedes-Benz driver who sparked a blistering upper Manhattan crash while drag racing with a Corvette, officials said Friday.

Eric Torres was grabbed by police after he ran away from the crash on Sherman Ave. near E. 204th St. in Inwood at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

Cops charged him with reckless endangerment and reckless driving. He was in the hospital on Friday. His arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court was pending.

--------------------------

Police say Torres was drag racing with a Corvette driver down Sherman Ave. when the Corvette slammed into him.

The out-of-control Corvette went on to strike a 34-year-old pedestrian near the corner, then launched onto the sidewalk where it slammed into the side of a building, cops said.

The Mercedes hit a parked, unoccupied moped before Torres climbed out and fled the scene, leaving the wrecked luxury vehicle behind. Cops apprehended him a short time later.

EMS took the pedestrian to Harlem Hospital in stable condition. The Corvette driver and passenger were also taken to Harlem Hospital, where they are expected to survive.
