UPS Worker Blows Whistle on Buyouts: Just a Wage-Cutting Scheme

UPS worker says the company is offering buyouts to workers, the official reason is a pay them to quit so they can reduce their workforce
But she says that’s not what’s happening. She says they are just rehiring different drivers to fill the positions at much lower wages
“At least at my hub, which I know quite a few other hubs might be doing this too, now they're hiring people. And what they're doing is they're getting rid of the people at the higher rate and they're hiring them at the lower rate because we have a scaled progression and it takes 4 years to hit top scale”
“So that's why they offered the buyout. Now they hired new people at half the rate”
She says the company has also gotten very stingy
“UPS used to hand out like turkeys and hams, and they used to give us a bunch of free stuff, and they would have raffles, and they really like gave you the sense of like they really cared about you as a person, and they cared about you because you were a part of the company. And now things aren't necessarily like that anymore, but I feel like that's like that in most places. Society has really moved away from us being a community and more into it's all about profit margins, which is just sad”
I looked into it and these senior drivers make $120,000–$160,000+ when including benefits and overtime
If you fire them and rehire new workers, the new workers only make $50,000 – $80,000+ in the first 1–2 years
This saves the company a huge amount of money

Our route driver changed his "route" last year. Apparently, drivers bid on routes and whoever has the more senior position gets a good route
and the lower ones get the routes that have a ton of stops like apartment buildings, sub divisions etc.
