Controversial Finnish-Kurdish rapper Milan Jaff (often referred to as a "gang boss" was severely burned in a prison attack on New Year's Day in 2023 while serving time at Riihimäki Prison.

The Attack: Another inmate, identified in Finnish media as an older prisoner serving time for a high-profile ax-murder, threw a mixture of boiling water and cooking oil over Jaff in the prison's separation-unit kitchen.

Injuries: Jaff suffered severe burns that covered 5% of his body, requiring long-term hospital treatment and leaving permanent scars.

Motive: According to police and media reports, the attack was alleged to be a contract hit ordered by a rival gang.

The Aftermath: The assailant was convicted of aggravated assault and sentenced to an additional 1 year and 10 months in prison, and was ordered to pay Jaff €7,500 in damages. Jaff was subsequently transferred to Turun vankila (Turku Prison) and has since been deported from Finland following his prison sentences. You can read more about the court verdict via Ilta-Sanomat.
